  • How long are lessons?
Lessons are typically 30 minutes long, but there are options for 1 hour lessons as well. We can discuss which option is better suited for your child.
  • What instruments do you teach?
I teach Guitar and Ukulele. I encourage Ukulele for my younger students to begin with as it's smaller and easier to play notes on, but guitar for older students as they can't outgrow the skills and can be ever improved upon. Ukulele will allow young students to learn guitar techniques while their hand dexterity continues to develop, making it a seamless transition to guitar in the future.

  • Can any guitar work?
Guitar Jules only offers acoustic guitar, not electric. We highly recommend using nylon stringed classical guitars, but it is not necessary for lessons, as long as it's acoustic. But nylon stringed classical guitars are necessary for RCM examinations. Here is why nylon stringed guitars are beneficial for both beginners and more advanced students: For Beginner's: I strongly encourage students to play with Nylon stringed "Classical Guitars", as the Nylon is easier to push down on, easier to make clean sounding notes and less painful on fingers, making their guitar journey more enjoyable, accomplishing and accelerated. For Advanced: Classical guitars are excellent for advanced players because they offer a unique tonality and expressive range. The nylon strings of a classical guitar produce a warm, mellow sound with rich overtones, allowing for greater detail in musical expression. The wide neck and flat fingerboard facilitate intricate fingerpicking techniques and complex chords, enabling players to explore diverse musical playing. Additionally, the responsiveness of classical guitars to dynamic changes and articulation provides advanced players with the ability to convey deeper emotional content and musicality in their performances.
  • While in class
While students are in with their instructor, parents/guardians are welcome to wait in the lobby, where there is self service coffee and tea at your disposal, wait in your vehicle or drop off and pickup. If using the indoor amenities volume must be kept to a minimum for respect to others in the building.
  • What age can my student start?
Children ages 6 and older I strongly suggest starting on Ukulele to gain finger muscle, dexterity and proper skills that can be implemented to guitar when the right age or skills are developed. For guitar I start as young as 8 years old to allow their hands to be more developed and make it less frustrating process to learning. I can offer a consultation to determine if the student has the strength and dexterity to start lessons on Guitar or Ukulele
  • Do you offer a meet and greet?
Yes! We offer a complimentary pre-lesson meet and greet to come see the facility, meet me and get a feel for how lessons will be structured. These meeting are usually 10 minutes in length and are welcome to students and parents/guardians that would like more information before committing to lessons.
  • Is there any performance opportunities?
Yes! I feel it a great way for students to showcase their hard work and dedication to family, friends and the public. Guitar Jules encourages students to participate in local performances scheduled through us and be part of our local Airdrie music festival: Airdrie Rotary of Performing Arts.
